"ip tunnel add gre1 ..." returns "ioctl: No such device"
Is there no support for GRE tunnels in the kernel ? |

Correct. No support for it currently. What is supported our of the box is anything that uses the 'tun' device such as OpenVPN. We're also able to provide IP-IP tunnel devices (tunl device) on a case-by-case basis.
I will submit the feature request to Virtuozzo support.

Can you elaborate on the available options that I have ?
There is no /dev/net/tun in my box and even when I mknod it by hand openvpn still dies on me (Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/net/tun: Permission denied (errno=13)). It seems that tun support isn't included in the kernel either... Or is there something that I am missing ? Also, can you explain what you mean by case by case ip-ip tunnel support ? Are you saying you will build the tunnel outside of my box or that you will enable the option for me to build the tunnel inside ? Because tunl support seems to be missing from the kernel as well. Thanks for your time. |

Sorry, you need to contact support to have them enable the tun driver for you. It is a simple command they run to enable permission to it.
The IPIP tunnel is a lot more complex to implement and I'd recommend giving the tun driver a try first. In this scenario it is built outside of the VPS on the host and then the tunl device is moved to inside the VPS.
